Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution performance sedan uses a 291-horsepower turbocharged engine and features a standard all-wheel-drive system that features three selectable modes for various surfaces.
A well-equipped MR Touring trim level is new for 2010 and includes a moonroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats and automatic headlights. Subtle styling changes include revised taillights and a new antenna.
Mitsubishi says the Evolution's shark like nose was inspired by the air intakes on fighter jets. The current Lancer's forward-leaning stance is already one of the more aggressive shapes among compact cars, and the Evolution looks even more so.

Standard 18-inch wheels

The Lancer Evolution's optional twin-clutch automated manual works much like Volkswagen's DSG gearbox, with the next gear at hand as soon as the previous gear is released. This is designed to produce lightning-fast shifts, which are performed automatically or with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The transmission offers three shift programs: Normal, Sport and S-Sport. Sport holds lower gears longer and shifts more quickly than Normal, while S-Sport optimizes performance for the racetrack.

The Mitsubishi Lancer gains a new hatchback version for the 2010 model year. The Lancer Sportback is offered with a choice of 4-cylinder engines including a turbocharged version.
Offered in GTS and performance Ralliart trim levels, the Lancer Sportback retains the general design cues of the Lancer sedan in front, but the liftgate is raked forward at an aggressive angle for a hatchback. A rear spoiler near the roof finishes off the design.

The Sportback has room for up to five people in two rows of seats. The Lancer sedan is available with an optional split-folding backseat to increase luggage space beyond the trunk. The Sportback has a maximum volume of 52.7 cubic feet. Available features include a Rockford Fosgate audio system, navigation system and Recaro sport seats.
Front-wheel-drive GTS models have a 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that works with a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission, which includes shift paddles on the steering wheel.
The all-wheel-drive Ralliart offers considerably more power. It features a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 237 hp and 253 pounds-feet of torque. This engine is teamed with a 6-speed, twin-clutch transmission that also lets the driver control shifts via steering-wheel paddles.

Mitsubishi's new five-seat Outlander Sport is a tiny crossover and is offered in front- or all-wheel drive and will be available in base ES and up-level SE trim levels when it hits dealerships in fall of 2010.
The larger Outlander and the new Outlander Sport share comparable front-ends. Both have a distinctive grille and the slit-like headlights. The Outlander Sport is about 14 inches shorter than the Outlander.
The Outlander Sport ES has standard 16-inch wheels and low-rolling-resistance tires, LED taillights and heated side mirrors. The SE trim adds 18-inch alloy rims, fog lamps and high-intensity-discharge headlights.
Outlander Sports come with front bucket seats and a 60/40-split folding backseat with a pass-through to the cargo area. Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, steering-wheel audio controls, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, USB and auxiliary inputs, and Mitsubishi's Fuse system that features Bluetooth for phone calls and audio streaming.
SE trims add automatic climate control, automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and heated front seats. A Navigation Package and a Premium Package that includes a panoramic glass roof and a Rockford Fosgate audio system are optional for SE models.
The Outlander Sport is powered by a 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that teams with a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission with paddle shifters that simulate gear changes. The available all-wheel-drive system has a lock mode for particularly slippery driving conditions.
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag.
