2009 Smart Car Showroom

The Smart concept car was introduced in 1994 by Daimler-Benz and the Swatch Watch Company. It took 8 years before four more models were added. In 2008, Daimler-Chrysler will be bringing the Smart Car to the United States. Sales should start in January 2008.

The 2009 Smart fortwo is a 2-door coupe or convertible that seats two passengers. The 2009 Smart fortwo is a carryover from 2008.

The Smart ForTwo

The Smart ForTwo feels large inside, because of its large windshield. It has comfortable full-size seats and the passenger seat has more leg-room, because it sets six-inches further back to allow for more shoulder space.

The Smart ForTwo is one of the most fuel-efficient, gas-powered cars available. It averages 40 mpg. It is powered by a 71-hp three-cylinder gasoline engine with a top speed of 90 mph. Or, you can opt for a turbo-charged engine that ups the horsepower to 84.

The engine is mounted in the back for efficiency. It features a 5-speed manual transmission with an automatic clutch. The shift lever is tapped to change gears.

Smart Fortwo comes standard with ABS, EBD and brake assist, stability control, dual front airbags, and hill start assist. Side-impact airbags are optional.

The Smart ForTwo is 8.8 feet long, 5.1 feet tall, and 5.1 feet wide. It has a wheel base of 73.5 inches and the coupe has a curb weight of 1,653 pounds while the cabrio has a curb weight of 1,741 pounds.. The Smart ForTwo offers unique removable, dual-color plastic body panels that are light and flexible. The panels can be easily changed, instantly switching its colors with your mood. They don’t dent or scratch on minor impact like traditional vehicles, and can easily and quickly be changed if damaged. Which keeps the car out of the body shop.

The coupe has a polycarbonate panoramic roof and alloy wheels. The split rear hatch opens to create a tailgate that can be used for parties.

Leather seats and seat heaters are optional. The ignition is mounted between the seats.

The Smart ForTwoNow is also available in a convertible version, the Smart ForTwo Cabriolet. Smart ForTwo Cabriolets have a fully retractable roof that can be operated while the car is in motion, or at a standstill. But, for the full experience, the driver must detach two, easily removable side roof rails that store behind the seat. The Smart ForTwo Cabriolet features a soft, plastic rear window that folds along with the top.

Smart ForTwo’s Passion includes air conditioning, a compact disc player, power windows, remote keyless entry and many more options that Smart drivers are passionate about.

To satisfy the Smart driver, all Smart ForTwo Cabriolets have a fully retractable roof that can be operated while the car is in motion, or at a standstill.

The tridion safety cell forms the core element of the body of each Smart Car. It is manufactured exclusively from high-tensile steel and creates a cage-like safety structure for the occupants. The tridion safety cell makes the smart city-coupe one of the safest of small cars with regard to its crash safety characteristics. This has been confirmed by numerous crash tests conducted in Europe.
