The full-size 2011 Toyota Avalon features new styling and a new dash. The 3.5-liter V-6 and 6-speed automatic transmission remain the same, but by some transmission tuning, the gas mileage is up 1 mpg overall and is now EPA-rated at 20/29 mpg city/highway which is at the top of the large car market. Last year's XL, XLS and Limited trim levels have been narrowed to two: the base Avalon and up-scale Limited. The Avalon's headlights, side mirrors and taillights are new. A wider grille connects the headlights, while the front bumper has a wider, more bottom-heavy air dam. The side mirrors include turn-signal indicators. They now fold in — last year's did not — and, on the Avalon Limited, include puddle lamps. In back, the taillights gain LED light pipes. Fog lights and 17-inch alloy wheels are standard; Limited models add rain-sensing wipers, chrome door handles and xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights.
The hinged doors over the navigation system, stereo and climate controls are gone and have replaced by an open design. The navigation system has improved graphics while the 2010 Avalon had a dated, older navigation display. The gauges are also new. The base Avalon grade is fairly well equipped, with standard leather upholstery, power front seats, reclining rear seats, a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control and a CD stereo with USB/iPod compatibility. Limited models add heated, ventilated seats, a keyless access system with push-button start, an upgraded JBL stereo and a power rear sunshade. Many of those features are optional on the base Avalon. The navigation system, which includes a backup camera, is optional.
Toyota's 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 remains standard, as does a 6-speed automatic transmission. Standard safety features include seven airbags: the required dual front ones plus a driver's knee airbag, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows. Antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are also standard. Common Standard Equipment and Specs

For 2010, the Corolla comes with an electronic stability system and traction control as standard equipment.
The sedan sports bump-strip-free doors that give the car a smooth look. S and XRS models are marketed as sport-oriented Corollas and receive special exterior styling elements, like a chin spoiler, rocker panels and a trunklid spoiler.

The Corolla has room for five people with its front bucket seats and a three-place rear bench.

The Corolla's base engine is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, paired to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The XRS has a more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder, mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission, which can be manually shifted when placed in the "S" position.
The XRS also comes with a sport-tuned suspension, which includes a front strut tower brace. Four disc brakes are standard on the XRS, while other Corollas come with a front-disc/rear-drum setup.
The 2010 Corolla comes with an electronic stability system and traction control standard.

Toyota's retro-styled FJ Cruiser SUV re-creates some of the 1958 FJ40's original charm. With seating for five passengers, the FJ competes with similar off-road themed SUVs, like the Nissan Xterra and Jeep Wrangler.
The 4.0-liter V-6 gets variable valve timing and roller rocker arms, resulting in 20 horsepower more for a total of 259 hp. Toyota now recommends regular gas instead of premium for the V-6. A new Special Edition model comes with off-road gear like Bilstein shock absorbers, a differential lock, skid plates and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, plus several convenience amenities and a Sandstorm paint color.
The FJ Cruiser sports boxy styling and a dirt-friendly interior. The front styling is a throwback to the original FJ40, as are the FJ Cruiser's white roof and wraparound rear-quarter windows. Other elements are not so faithful: A high beltline and short windows bear more resemblance to a Hummer than to the FJ40's tall cab.

A rectangular, truck-like dashboard incorporates a prominent square panel with stereo and climate controls. A compass, outside temperature display and vehicle pitch readouts are available in an optional gauge cluster that sits above the middle air vents. Door inserts and dashboard panels can be matched to the FJ Cruiser's exterior color.

FJ Cruisers are available in rear-wheel and 4-wheel-drive configurations; they all use the same 4.0-liter V-6 engine.
The FJ earned Good results in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests. There is a roll-sensing feature that works with the side curtain airbags to deploy them in the event of a rollover. There are also standard active front head restraints; they move forward in a rear-end collision to restrict head movement.

The Highlander Hybrid is sleek and features smooth sides. It retains the upright D-pillar of the previous generation, and a power liftgate is available. Styling differences between the gas-only Highlander and the Highlander Hybrid are minimal; the hybrid has different grille and taillight styling and unique hybrid badges.
The Highlander Hybrid has front bucket seats and sliding and reclining second-row captain's chairs that can be configured to handle three people with Toyota's Center Stow seat. The Center Stow seat provides decent comfort, and it can be removed when it isn't needed. Seven-seat Highlanders have a two-person third-row seat that folds flat into the floor.
The Highlander Hybrid's gas/electric powertrain has an EV mode that allows it to travel at low speeds for about five miles on battery power alone, according to Toyota.

| Land Cruiser 4dr 4x4 V8 | $65,970 | $58,382 |
| Destination Charge: $800 | ||
The Land Cruiser is an eight-seat full-size SUV. It's larger than Toyota's Highlander and 4Runner midsize SUVs and smaller than the full-size Sequoia, and the Land Cruiser is more expensive than all three. At this size and price, competitors include the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Mercedes-Benz M- and GL-Class and the Porsche Cayenne S.
Safety Connect, a new subscription telematics service, is standard, and the optional navigation system gains the XM Nav Traffic data service. Audio systems now include integrated XM Satellite Radio capability, Bluetooth and a MP3 input jack and USB port.
Of Toyota's current SUVs, the Land Cruiser looks most like the Highlander. One major difference is that the Land Cruiser is a truck-based, body-on-frame model, which puts it in the same category as Toyota's FJ Cruiser, 4Runner and Sequoia.

Though it has eight seats divided among three rows, the Land Cruiser has a shortcoming that's common to truck-based SUVs: Its interior space isn't as great as you'd expect from its outside girth. The headroom and legroom measurements are less than the midsize Highlander's. Only in width does it exceed the Highlander — most notably in the third row, where the Land Cruiser gives 16 more inches of hip room and roughly 7 extra inches of shoulder room.

The Land Cruiser is intended to be off-road-capable. The rear suspension is multilink, but the rear axle is solid, which has its off-road advantages but is viewed as a detriment to ride and handling on pavement. The Land Cruiser has a Low gear in its transfer case, along with an adaptive suspension and a feature called Crawl Control that manages the throttle while the driver steers over obstacles.

The 2010 Toyota Matrix is a compact crossover vehicle that can carry up to five
people and plenty of cargo. The Matrix comes in a base version as well as S and
sporty XRS trim levels.
For 2010, the Matrix gets a standard electronic stability system and traction control.
The Matrix has an aggressive-looking front end that features a bulging hood, thin wraparound headlights and a small trapezoidal grille. Smooth body sides give the Matrix a modern appearance, and the hatchback's forward-swept D-pillars enhance the car's sporty shape.
S and XRS models have a sports body kit featuring a front underbody spoiler, honeycomb grille, lower air intake and rear deck spoiler (standard on the XRS).

All models are front-wheel drive, except for the specially equipped all-wheel-drive S model, which is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
The base and FWD S models come with a basic rear torsion beam suspension; AWD S and XRS models get a more complex rear double wishbone suspension, which provides a more compliant ride.
For 2010, the Matrix comes with an electronic stability system and traction control standard in every trim level.

Sporting a similar shape but a completely new drivetrain and interior, the third-generation Toyota Prius arrives as a conventional hybrid that uses existing nickel-metal hydride battery technology. Toyota says it will eke out a combined 50 mpg.
The company calls its Prius an "Eco-Icon," and the latest generation should have plenty of available gadgets for technological and environmental diehards. Among them are a solar-panel moonroof that powers modest air conditioning in hot parking lots, LED headlights that use less energy than conventional halogen lamps, and the self-parking system from Lexus' flagship LS sedan.
Riding the same 106.3-inch wheelbase as its predecessor, the new Prius adds less than an inch in overall length and width. Height stays the same. At 175.6 inches long, it's 3.3 inches longer than the Insight. Overall styling, particularly from the rear, looks similar to that of the previous Prius, complete with a bar that splits the hatchback window widthwise. The biggest difference is up front, where the bumper has a busier, more squared-off look. The headlights sport arrow-shaped lenses that are a bit like the Nissan Maxima.

Fifteen-inch alloy wheels are standard; uplevel models have 17-inch alloy wheels and fog lights. Toyota says the overall design is the most aerodynamic of any mass-produced car in the world, with a drag coefficient of 0.25 — slightly better than the outgoing Prius.
The dash keeps some elements, including instruments that are high atop the center portion, two glove compartments and a nub-like shifter. Chief among the differences are the center controls, which now stretch down toward the center console. The shifter itself has been moved closer to knee level. The dash and doors have a matte-like finish, and the steering wheel gains a telescoping adjustment.
Uplevel options include heated leather seats, a backup camera and a navigation system. Toyota's Safety Connect, an accident-notification and vehicle tracking service that's not unlike GM's OnStar, will be available beginning in the second half of 2009.
The steering wheel has touch-sensitive audio and climate controls that display a replica of the actual controls and highlight the driver's choices in the instrument display. Toyota calls it Touch Tracer, claiming it helps drivers keep their eyes on the road. Other information on the display includes fuel and energy consumption meters, as well as a depiction of power flow between the drivetrain's gasoline and electric components.

Though the Prius' roofline retains its well-recognized hump, Toyota moved the crest 3.9 inches rearward for better aerodynamics and more backseat headroom. Redesigned front seatbacks increase rear legroom, and the cargo area is slightly wider and longer, too.
Last year's 1.5-liter four-cylinder has been replaced by a 1.8-liter engine augmented by a number of high-efficiency tricks — among them an electric water pump, exhaust gas recovery, a more efficient automatic transmission and optimized regenerative braking. Coupled with an electric motor, the drivetrain makes 134 horsepower, versus 110 hp in the outgoing Prius. Toyota says the new car hits 60 mph in 9.8 seconds; its predecessor made the run in about 11 seconds.
Being a "full" hybrid, the Prius can drive on electric-only power, gasoline power or a combination of the two. There's no need to plug it into a wall outlet. Like other full hybrids, the car's electric motor draws power from a trunk-mounted battery, which recharges using braking friction. Drivers can switch between four driving modes: regular Drive; Eco Mode, which optimizes settings for better mileage; Power Mode, which increases gas-pedal sensitivity for better acceleration; and EV-Drive Mode, which attempts to stay in electric mode as long as possible, provided the battery has enough juice. (If you need extra power in a pinch, flooring the gas pedal kicks on the engine even in EV-Drive, Toyota says.) On a full battery charge, the Prius can maintain gas-free electric cruising for up to a mile.
The Prius has seven standard airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, front
seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags. Active head
restraints, all-disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic
stability system are also standard. Optional radar-based adaptive cruise control
maintains speeds based on the speed of the car ahead; other options include a
lane-drift warning system and a pre-collision system that cinches up seat belts
and applies the brakes in situations where it deems a crash unavoidable.

Toyota's RAV4 is a sporty compact utility vehicle that can fit up to seven people. The RAV4 comes with front- or all-wheel drive; Base, Sport and Limited trim levels are available.
The Sport Appearance Package is available on two-wheel-drive, four-cylinder Sport models. The optional JBL audio system with hands-free Bluetooth capability and audio controls on the steering wheel is available on the Sport trim, and a backup camera is a new option for base models.
Toyota says the RAV4's exterior styling follows a "modern-rugged" theme. The body is free of cladding, and the spare tire is mounted to the rear door.
Last year, the RAV4 received a restyled grille that resembles the Toyota Highlander's front end.

The RAV4 has seating for five. When equipped with the 50/50-split flat-folding third-row seat, the RAV4 can seat up to seven people. The second-row split-bench seat can move forward and backward and recline.
Integrated XM Satellite Radio, a navigation system and a backseat entertainment system are available.

The Toyota RAV4 is available with a 4-cylinder or V-6 powertrain. Both front- and all-wheel-drive models are offered; the V-6 RAV4s can tow up to 3,500 pounds, when properly equipped.
Downhill Assist Control, which controls speed during off-road descents, and Hill-Start Assist Control, which holds the car in position for two or three seconds, is standard on V-6 models and four-cylinder RAV4s with a third-row seat.

The Sequoia is Toyota's largest SUV, and the full-size model was redesigned for 2008. The Sequoia is available with a choice of V-8 engines, including a new 4.6-liter V-8 and a more powerful 5.7-liter V-8. When properly equipped, the Sequoia can pull 10,000 pounds and seat up to eight people.
The Sequoia comes in three trim levels: SR5, Limited and Platinum. Competitors include the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Nissan Armada.
For 2010, the Sequoia gets a new base 4.6-liter V-8 engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Other enhancements include standard driver and passenger knee airbags, Bluetooth and a USB port for MP3 players.
The Sequoia sports a two-box shape, but it doesn't have bump strips on the side doors. Like the Toyota Tundra pickup truck, the Sequoia wears a large chrome grille.

The Sequoia can accommodate up to eight people in its three rows of seats, which can be covered in either fabric or leather. The second row slides out of the way when you lift a lever, making it easy to get to the third-row seats. Large air conditioning knobs dominate the middle of the dash. For 2010, both Bluetooth and an audio USB port are included as standard equipment.

For 2010, the Sequoia gets a new base engine, the 4.6-liter i-Force V-8, which delivers 34 horsepower more than the previous version.
The 5.7-liter V-8 remains the powertrain of choice for most trim levels (it's standard on Limited and Platinum Sequoias) — and a flex-fuel version is available. Both V-8s are now mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sequoia has a maximum tow rating of 10,000 pounds.
For 2010, the Sequoia gets driver and passenger knee airbags as standard equipment.

Toyota has redesigned its Sienna minivan for 2011. It is now wider, but slightly shorter than they 2010. The Sienna will now offer a 4-cylinder or the previously standard V-6. All-wheel drive will continue to be offered on the V-6 Sienna.
The Sienna comes in five trim levels: base, LE, SE, XLE and Limited. This is the first Sienna to offer a sport-tuned SE variant; it has a modified suspension, 19-inch wheels and racier exterior details. The SE, XLE and Limited come standard with a V-6, which is optional on the base and LE. Four-wheel drive is optional on the LE V-6, XLE and Limited.
Each trim level comes with its own a distinct grille. The SE includes a blacked-out grille with a mesh insert, plus lower side skirts, clear-lens taillights and 19-inch wheels. 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels go on other trim levels.
A rooftop spoiler is standard and conceals a rear window wiper. Fog lights are standard on the SE, XLE and Limited. Other available features include power sliding doors, a power liftgate and a keyless access system with push-button start. An optional wide-angle backup camera can display a 180-degree view around the rear of the car.

The Sienna's dashboard has been designed so both the driver and front passenger feel a majority of the space is theirs. It has large dials for major functions like temperature adjustment and stereo volume.
Depending on seating configuration, the cabin accommodates seven or eight occupants. Standard second-row captain's chairs have a walk-in feature that tips up the bottom cushion and slides the seat forward for third-row access. A removable center seat is optional; it stows in a nook behind the third-row seat.
The Sienna's chairs are removable, should you need to use the minivan's 150 cubic feet of maximum storage capacity. Like all minivans and most crossovers, the Sienna's third row folds into a storage compartment behind it to create a flat load floor. It does so manually or, in some trim levels, by power operation.
The variety of options include heated leather seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, dual moonroofs and a navigation system. The optional rear entertainment system has a wide flip-down screen that can play two different inputs — two DVDs, for example, or a DVD and a video game — side by side, with passengers listening to their individual programming via wireless headphones.

The Sienna's 4-cylinder engine comes from the Venza and Highlander. It displaces 2.7 liters and generates 187 horsepower and 186 pounds-feet of torque, and its EPA-estimated 19/26 mpg city/highway tops the V-6-equipped competition by 1 or 2 mpg.
Last year's 3.5-liter V-6 carries over; it makes 266 hp and 245 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines use six-speed automatic transmissions. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup. All-wheel drive is optional with the V-6 on all but the base and SE trims.
Standard safety features include front-, side-impact and three-row side curtain airbags, as well as a driver's knee airbag and front active head restraints. Antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are also standard. Toyota's optional Vehicle Dynamics Integrate Management system integrates stability control with various drivetrain components for better response during evasive maneuvers. On Limited models, the optional adaptive cruise control system includes Toyota's Pre-Collision System, which can alert the driver, tighten the seat belts and apply some braking should it detect a rapidly decelerating vehicle in front of the minivan.

The Tacoma is available in three cab styles: Regular Cab, Access Cab and Double Cab. Regular and Access Cabs come with 6-foot beds, while the Double Cab can be had with either a 5- or 6-foot bed. Much of the Tacoma's appeal comes from its various special models and packages. The TRD Off-Road package is perhaps the most popular, with a combination of appearance and performance items. Included are progressive-rate front springs, Bilstein shocks, BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires, 16-inch alloy wheels and TRD badging. The TRD Sport package offers a monochromatic appearance, street-tuned suspension and low-profile tires on 17-inch wheels. The X-Runner is the real street-performance star in the specialty group. It features a 4.0-liter V-6 engine, six-speed manual transmission, 18-inch wheels, improved steering response, Bridgestone Potenza tires and a lowered, specially tuned suspension. The X-Runner gets its name from a unique X-brace on the rear of the frame.
The Tacoma was really beefed up when it was redesigned for the 2005 model. The wheel flares are more muscular, character lines are more pronounced and the grille is a little more menacing. The Double Cab looks particularly good, especially in four-wheel-drive trim. The X-Runner, however, doesn't have a lean, athletic look worthy of its performance; it's just too burly with all its extra bodywork.

The Tacoma interior gets a higher grade than other compact trucks, with a simple but effective layout, supportive seats and attention-to-detail build quality. The rearview monitor system features a small camera in the tailgate handle and a 2.5-inch display mounted in the rearview mirror. Ceiling-mounted speakers are included in all of the five sound systems offered throughout the lineup. Premium JBL audio, available only in the Double Cab, offers a six-CD changer, Bluetooth, seven speakers (including a subwoofer) and XM Satellite Radio. Toyota doesn't offer leather seating in the Tacoma, but there is a sport fabric on the X-Runner that's also available on the Access Cab and Double Cab in four-wheel-drive or PreRunner configurations.

The Tacoma is power by:
Combined with sophisticated accident-avoidance technologies and standard side-impact and side curtain airbags, the Tacoma has more safety features than most compact pickups. Besides stability control, the Star Safety System includes antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and traction control.

Toyota made major changes with the Tundra in the 2007 model year. It sported a powerful 5.7-liter V-8 engine and 6-speed automatic, and all cab/bed configurations could be equipped to tow at least 10,000 pounds.
The Tundra comes in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, and in three cab styles: regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax. The CrewMax is the largest cab in the half-ton segment since Chrysler discontinued the Mega Cab option for the Dodge Ram 1500 last year. The CrewMax comes only with a 5-foot, 6-inch bed, while other versions can be ordered with either a 6-foot, 6-inch bed, or an 8-foot cargo bed. Trim levels include Tundra, SR5 and Limited.
Toyota's new 310-horsepower, 4.6-liter i-Force V-8 makes 327 pounds-feet of torque. It's smaller than the 276-hp, 4.7-liter V-8 with 313 pounds-feet of torque that it replaces, but is stronger, about 100 pounds lighter and more efficient.
Tundra models are split into two classes: Tundra Grade and Limited Grade. Tundra Grade models sport a new two-bar front grille and revised taillamps, while Limited models wear a billet-style grille. A redesigned seven-pin towing hitch connector now sits above the hitch to help avoid damage and dirt. Also, a shelf to help organize storage space has been added to the lower glove box.
The new Tundra Grade Work Truck Package is aimed at commercial buyers. It's an entry-level model available in only regular or Double Cab configurations, with vinyl seating and rubber floors. It's priced up to $1,030 less than the truck's standard MSRP. At the high end of the spectrum is the new Platinum Package option for the Limited Tundra which is equipped with the 5.7-liter V-8. It includes heated and ventilated seats, a sunroof and wood-grain trim.
The Tundra features a massive grille, sculptured hood and husky bumper present an intimidating head-on view. From the side, the Tundra is rather conventional. A deck-rail adjustable tie-down system is available for all cargo beds.

The Tundra's interior is designed to accommodate working people. The control knobs are easy to grip, even in work gloves, and the gauges are easy to read at a glance but placed at the end of long barrels in the dash. There are plenty of storage options, especially with a center console that can hold a laptop and hanging files. Even the regular cab Tundra has enough room behind the seats to hold five-gallon paint buckets. The seats are wide, supportive and comfortable. The new Platinum Package adds luxury touches.

The Tundra is powered by:
Toyota emphasizes safety with a suite of electronic braking technologies that help drivers avoid accidents. All are tied into the antilock braking system. They include traction control, brake assist and electronic stability control. Toyota also has electronic brake-force distribution, which adjusts braking pressure according to cargo load. The Tundra doesn't hold back on airbags, with side-impact airbags in front and side curtain airbags standard on all versions.

The Toyota Venza debuted for 2009 as a large hatchback that's based on the Camry with room for up to five people. It's available with four-cylinder or V-6 power and can have either front- or all-wheel drive. It also has a large helping of standard safety and comfort features.
The Venza adds Bluetooth and a standard USB port for connecting a MP3 player — like an iPod — to all audio systems.
Despite its practical hatchback body style, the Venza manages to look rather stylish in person. Credit the car's proportions and interesting rear styling, which features swoopy taillights. The front of the Venza is defined by its large grille, which could easily be at home on an SUV.

The Venza's two rows of seats can be finished in cloth or leather. The 60/40-split rear bench seat features reclining backrests, and the sections can be folded using levers in the cargo area.

The base engine in the Venza is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 182 horsepower and 182 pounds-feet of torque. Optional 3.5-liter V-6 makes 268 hp and 246 pounds-feet of torque.

Yaris models have standard electronic stability system, traction control and a rear defroster. A 5-speed manual transmission is now available on the 4-door hatchback. Hatchbacks with the stick shift feature a tachometer.
The sedan is more conservative-looking than the hatchbacks; it features a Camry-style snub-nosed front end. Both body styles feature a forward-cab design with short overhangs.
